Published from a new study launched by E.ON and the UK Green Building Council, targets will not be met by 2050 unless drastic changes are implemented across the UK.

Massive restructuring of cities throughout are needed if targets are to be met

David Hall and Kas Mohammed, VPs for Schneider Electrics, have both expressed opinions that the current cities in the UK need renovation and reformatting to encourage and allow a greener approach.

But the main difficulty that many cities are facing is reducing their primary source of emissions, transport. Nearly 27% of UK emissions comes from transportation, 91% of this coming from road transport. Cities in the UK and inherrently designed for car travel, and to make a significant impact on road transport is to encourage public and foot traffic instead.

The UK economy needs to be rebuilt with climate action at its core

As decarbonisation becomes the forefront of many businesses, and the push for electrification in both commercial and domestic sectors begins to strain the current National Grid, David Hall has stated that an urgent investment into smart bi-directional grids would provide the ability to maintain the UK grid, avoiding blackouts and without increasing energy costs at consumer level. This would also create jobs for years to come, and solidify the UK and as leader in green innovation.
